The Midlle of Sha’ban’s Night (Lailat An-Nisfi Min Sha’ban)
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the universes, The Command is His, and to Him is everything’s destiny. He (SWT) does blot out (Yamhu) and/or confirm (Youthbit) what He pleases, and with him is the source/essence of the Revelation (Umul Kitab).
Allah’s Blessing and Salutation be upon our Master Muhammad, his family, and companions.
Muslim scholars and non-scholars have been in un-necessary disagreement regarding the middle of Sha’ban’s Night. Some of them declare the celebration of this night a Duty, while others do not, some say its lawful (Halal) and some say it is prohibited (Haram), some object to the act of performing the supplication (Dua’a) itself and some object only to the content of the Dua’a.
In order to stay out of the dispute, we say that whoever makes supplication during the middle of Sha’ban’s Night does not ask any other god but Allah.
Concerning the disagreement about the content of the supplication that is agreed upon, recurrent, and acceptable to the nonprofessional, we say that it is the right of the servant to ask his Master what he sees fit to manage his life here and in the Hereafter with reasonable and unreasonable requests, and it is up to Allah to accept or reject.
Everything a servant asks Allah for does not fall under the circle of impossible things, e.g. our Master Moses (Musa) asked to see Allah with his head eyes. Moses knew when he asked that Allah could not be seen with the head eyes as no vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision, and He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things (La Tudrekuhu alabsar Wa Hua Youdrikul Abasra Wa Hua Al-Latiful Khabir).
Moses was not mistaken when he made his request because to ask for the impossible and anything that is under the Divine Power, is The Possible itself. Even though people may think it is impossible, but nothing is impossible when Allah is considered.
There is no prohibition on making supplication at anytime, while on the contrary, Praying is prohibited at certain times e.g. at sunrise and sunset.
There is also, times when Fasting is not allowed e.g. the night before Ramadan (Lailat elshak) and before the two E’ids. Even the Hajj is prohibited all year except for the Day of A’rafah, etc. On the other hand, there is no prohibited time to say supplication and all supplication’s formulas (Say-gha) are allowed assuming the servant has good faith in Allah (SWT).
The best time a servant can say supplication is when he is inspired to do so by his Lord, and the best formula is the one inspired by Him.
I am hopeful that we will let matters in the hands of Allah, and not interject between Him and his servants, and not to shut all doors in the face of people.
Verily, the destination of all matters is to Allah, and to Him goes back every Command.
May you all be well this and every year.
There is no Power or Might except with Allah.
