Everyone Sings What’s on His Mind OR (Every Bird Loves to Hear Himself Sing)
(Kullan Yoghanni A’la Lailah)
Praise be to Allah, His Blessings and Salutations be upon His Messenger, the Messenger’s family and whoever is loyal to him…
It was narrated that a farmer, his wife and daughter were all deaf. In spite of this handicap, every one of them has something occupying his/her mind.
If you talk to someone with something that he/she does not hear or understand, he/she would use this chance to address the issue occupying his/her mind.
Once upon a time, the above mentioned farmer was working in his farm to plow its land with a cow-driven plow. A man who knew him passed by, greeted him and went away. Of course the farmer did not hear what he said. At noontime, the farmer’s wife brought him lunch in the field as is the custom of all farmers. He told her about the man who passed by earlier and was rebuking him for plowing a muddy land that was not fit for plowing. His wife said:” It’s your daughter’s fault that the food is excessively salty. It’s your daughter who did the cooking and it’s her fault”.
The wife returned to the house and told her daughter that her father was complaining about the food being too salty. The daughter said, “Oh mother; it doesn’t matter if he is rich or poor I will marry him anyway”
We can see that the man is busy plowing his land, the girl is busy with her marriage, and the mother- in between them – has her own interest (of defending herself) as the proverb says: “ Everyone sings what’s on his mind” or “Every bird loves to hear himself sing”.
We can go further and say, he who praises the market is the one who is making profits and necessity calls for interpretation, and fancy can be of no avail against the Truth.
Dear reader, as you can see this silly story indicates the state of confusion we live in nowadays, where complaints are founded only by those who complained, and everybody dreams of what he wishes which may come true or not.
The mother of all the Hashemite (Om Hashim) i.e. Sayyda Zainab (May Allah be pleased with her) said in poetry:
“There are eyes that stayed up at night
and others that slept through the night,
Worried about matters that might
or might not come true
The Lord who protected and
provided for you yesterday,
Surely is capable of protecting and
providing for you tomorrow
Thus, avoid being worried as much as you can,
For its craziness to burden yourself with worries.”
There is no Power or Might except with Allah
